About Highlights for Children:
Highlights for Children, a family media brand that has been nurturing children with high-quality, innovative products for more than 70 years, reaches more than two million children every month throughout the world. Our wide variety of “Fun with a Purpose” magazines, books, and digital products is dedicated to helping children become their best selves – creative, curious, caring and confident.
Love making anything and everything? Want to work on an iconic brand for children? Have more ideas than you know what to do with? If your answer is “yes” to any of those questions, then keep reading, because the editorial team at Highlights for Children is looking for a savvy maker who:
Loves making all manner of things, from arts, crafts, and food to robots and magic
Is committed to helping children become their best selves
Knows that makerspaces, kitchens, and art studios are laboratories for fun
Is not afraid to make a mess or clean one up
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
What our new special projects editor will do on a daily basis falls into two main categories. The first involves coming up with unique, creative, and fun craft ideas, figuring out how to make them accessible for kids, and then making them for real. (Ditto for food, robots, and magic.) The second involves shaping all that wonderful creative into publishable content that we can deliver across our many platforms to the children and families we serve.
In the quest for how-to fun, you’ll collaborate with the editorial team, magazine art directors, digital producers, social media teams, and anyone else who will help you share your creative content with the children who are your muse. You’ll also spend time kid-testing your ideas with children, so be prepared to laugh, get messy, and iterate!
