Manager, Sales Support

Manager, Sales Support

The Manager, Sales Support directs the company’s support investments in sales force effectiveness and develops and manages functions essential to sales force productivity in multiple locations. These functions include sales process optimization, sales program implementations, sales training, national and local events, conferences, meeting management and evaluation, interdepartmental communications, database proficiency, budgeting fidelity, and team member recruiting and mentoring. Establishes high levels of quality, accuracy, and process consistency in planning, data collection, and execution and ensures these efforts are appropriately integrated with other operational processes employed within the company.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Manage a team of regional Sales Support staff to support activities essential to sales force productivity.
  • Collaborate with Director, Sales Enablement (new position) and Vice President, Sales to develop and implement strategies, metrics, budgets, and action plans to grow and support sales revenue targets and solve business challenges.
  • Proactively identify opportunities for process improvements and partner with internal and external stakeholders to implement changes.
  • Optimize planning with sales management, operations, and IT to increase the use and effectiveness of our CRM system, email deployment system, and event planning system.
  • Support company commitments related to state and national exhibits, events, meetings, and staff trainings. Evaluate results and provide recommendations for improvements.
  • Manage multi-region support groups in the Columbus office and develop a collaborative team environment.
  • Strengthen interdepartmental collaboration and internal communications throughout the organization.


  • Bachelors’ Degree required, Master Degree preferred
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a sales or sales management function in a business to business environment
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in a management or supervisory role
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in sales or  marketing, with knowledge of business planning, project or process management, and marketing plan development
  • Experience in the educational publishing industry a plus
  • Strong leadership and creativity skills
  • Excellent interpersonal, customer/client service, and/or presentation/teaching skills
  • In-depth industry knowledge and understanding of effective sales principles and process
  • Exceptional persuasive and motivational communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, strategic, and time management skills
  • Strong analytical management and implementation skills
  • Strong, reliable work ethic, positive attitude, and an active learner
  • Consistent capacity to multi-task in a fast paced environment and act with a sense of urgency and decisiveness
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and a CRM platform
  • Monthly travel required to participate in key management meetings and national conferences.
