Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Our new Craft and Activities Editor will shape editorial content around all types of making by:

  • Creating how-to experiences aligned with our brand’s aesthetics and mission
  • Ensuring that our how-to features are modern, age-appropriate, and fun for kids (and even for their parents)
  • Developing and curating content related to crafts, recipes, projects, and even experiments
  • Organizing and editing special publications for subscribers, newsstand, and more
  • Kid-testing crafts, recipes, and projects
  • Staying abreast and ahead of trends in craft (aesthetic, materials, techniques) and food (ingredients, nutrition, food art) and tech
  • Following closely developments in the STEAM education movement

What our new Craft and Activities Editor will do on a daily basis falls into two main categories. The first involves coming up with unique, creative, and fun craft ideas, figuring out how to make them accessible for kids, and then making them for real. (Ditto for food, robots, and magic.) The second involves shaping all that wonderful creative into publishable content that we can deliver across our many platforms to the children and families we serve.

In the quest for how-to fun, you’ll collaborate with the editorial team, magazine art directors, digital producers, social media teams, and anyone else who will help you share your creative content with the children who are your muse. You’ll also spend time kid-testing your ideas with children, so be prepared to laugh, get messy, and iterate!

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field
  • Experience working on a print and/or digital publication or product
  • Experience working with children


  • Keen understanding of children ages 0 to 12
  • Modern yet age-appropriate sense of design, craft, and photography
  • Strong written and oral communication skills 
  • Organizational skills galore
  • Basic photography skills
  • Flexibility and a growth mindset
  • A sense of humor
  • Ability to work well in a deadline-driven, highly collaborative environment
  • Fluency in Microsoft Office and Adobe CC programs
